Process PAPER
I knew what topic I would love to cover from the first moment my teacher told us we would be doing the History Fair. Since I would
be spending a couple of months working on this project, why not do something that
would fascinate me. My off the bat topic is The Black Plague.
After a long and heated debate with my mother on what I would do with the thousands of possibilities I had, I finally settled on making a website. Besides being practical and an interesting venue to present the work, it could help me gain new skills that would be useful later in life.
I began by opening up Weebly.com and setting an account up to start up my home page. I took great pains to select the most gruesome and stomach turning pictures I could find, in part because I am a huge fan of suspense and horror novels and movies, and the morbid aspect of the project fascinated me. At the same time, I went to my local library and checked out three great books on the subject. After reading through and carefully marking the pages of the two best books with post-it notes, I researched online and found a number of excellent websites. I quickly began to write the scores of information I had read onto my website, adding my own flare and stating claim to what I knew on the topic: the Black Plague drastically affected the course of human events and History.
The Black Plague deeply altered the course of History by eliminating more than half of Europe’s population, affecting England especially hard. It decimated whole families and communities, created panic and disruption for those who survived and it was a grim reality that could not be ignored by anyone alive at that time in Europe. The Black Death affected the Economy, Commerce, Arts and Literature of Medieval England, no aspect of life remained the same during and after the epidemic. Aside from my initial interest in the Black Plague as a topic, I ended up influenced by what I discovered during the research, like the information about the types of infections the flea can cause. Also, the facts about the problems with hygiene and limitations of medical help. These new facts made me want to give the website a very somber and scary look in order to accurately express the true horror of this plague and how much millions of people suffered. It is quite clear why the Black Plague is so feared and remembered. It destroyed everything it touched and it could come back. At any moment. On any day.
